Bill was a major force behind the construction of the North Trail along the James River in Richmond. He has always been a go-to person for projects around the area. Outside those projects, he is always racing in one form or another. So it was awesome that he found the time to share a little insight with us.

1. How long have you been biking?

I started biking in 1989 when I started doing road triathlons.


2. What kind of bike do you ride?

Scalpel 2000: XT drive train, shifters and brakes (disc, hydraulic); Lefty fork; Mavic wheels](can't remember which model- I haven't take possession of my new bike yet).

3. What is your favorite style of riding?

Anything off road!

4. What other contributions have you made to the Mountain Biking in Virginia?

Co-organized the building of the Northtrail in Richmond (hopefully soon to be a part of the James River Parks System). Organized the Sponsor Drive for the Northtrail project.


5. What has been your best event(s)?

1992 - Quailified for Tri-Fed National championships in Olympic Distance triathlon, Duathlon, Sprint Triathlon and USTS National Championships Qualifier. First year in off road triathlon I qualified for XTERRA World Championships in only my fourth ever off road race including mountain biking.


6. What has been your worst event(s)?

in the 2003 XTERRA World Championships, I went off course and added three miles (1.5 miles down the volcano and 1.5 miles back UP the volcano) in extreme heat. To that point, in 19 years of racing, I had DNF'd only 3 times.

7. What are some other activities outside of Mountain Biking?

Brewing beer; organizing an adventure racing/adventure sports team;
