Muddy Buddy is a Sellout...
Pocahontas State Park had a real hoedown this past weekend, July 17th. That's right, a sellout race. There were 750 teams, that's right...1500 participants! Great day for playing in the mud and having a Redhook all before noon. We will have more details soon.

Action Alert: Ask Senator Allen to Support Bike-friendly Wilderness Bill

Please help IMBA reach out to U.S. Senator George Allen (R-VA) by asking him
to co-sponsor the Virginia Ridge and Valley Act of 2005 (S. 942/H.R. 1975).

Working closely with the Virginia Wilderness Committee (VWC), IMBA has
helped forge an innovative bike-friendly agreement that will protect parts
of the Jefferson National Forest in southern Virginia as Wilderness.
Wilderness designations ban bicycle access and, traditionally, are
problematic for mountain bike advocates. However, the Virginia bill employs
boundary adjustments and diverse designations to protect riding
opportunities, and so could become an important model for other states.

The bill is endorsed by more than 100 organizations, including dozens of
businesses, local government officials, Virginia Wilderness Committee,
Virginia Audubon Council, the Virginia Tourism Corporation and local
mountain biking clubs.

U.S. Representative Rick Boucher (D-VA) and U.S. Senator John Warner (R-VA)
introduced the bill. With Senator Allen's support it has a good chance of
becoming law.

"This Wilderness legislation is the product of years of work," said Mark
Miller with the Virginia Wilderness Committee and the Southern Appalachian
Forest Coalition. "The agreement between mountain bikers and VWC provides a
framework for future cooperative efforts. We must all work together to help
the Virginia delegation get this bill passed."

The new venue boasted 200 teams and 50 Solo competitors for its first year in Hazelton, WV. The course was a little over 12 miles with over 500 feet of elevation change. Great job BIKE STOP!!!

Xterra ...might as well be racing on the sun..
One of the hardest races to put your finger on. Every year it is something different. This year proved no different. The James proves once again to be a factor. With the river level below 4 feet, the swim course was changed for both Sport and Xterra. This is in stark contrast to the last two years, when there was more water than anyone knew what to do with. And the biggest change of the year, the bike course! Thanks to Bill Swann and many other volunteers, the bike course used the new North Trail, as the name suggests, on the North side of the river. So the courses literally circled the river. The Xterra was a full 18 miles of trail riding all done within the City Limits!! The sun was so strong it was still able to find its way through all the dust kicked up by all the mountain bikers and trail runners! Xterra did a great job putting on another great show.. Way to go guys!!!

Xterra's Urban Assault gets a face lift
Getting a new race director, Richmond MultiSports, the Urban Assault was the perfect Urban Assault. True to XC mountain bike racing, with multiple classes and courses, this is one to keep on the calendar! Again all done in downtown Richmond, these courses, 9 and 17 miles, utilized the Buttermilk and Forest Hill trails! Tony Brown had the fastest Expert time at 1:11, he probably had the least amount of dust of anyone out there! Way to go Richmond MultiSports!! click on the Xterra results above for the Urban Assault times!!

225 racers(123 teams) showed themselves for this years 12 Hours of Lodi in Fredericksburg, VA. Not thunderstorms nor slick roots could keep these racers from kicking butt on the 8.3 mile course. The event went well and everyone was in great spirits despite not having much sleep from the midnight start. Results soon to follow.
