Mtn - Vesuvius This route runs clockwise from 'campsite' marker down to Rt 814. Rt814 is a 5 mile descent to Rt56. Right turn onto Rt56 will begin your 11 mile ascent to the Blue Ridge Pkwy(BluRP). This 8% grade is a great climb, especially on a Mountain Bike, that follows the Tye River. At BluRP, continue on Rt56 and descend the next 3 miles to Vesuvius. You will fly down this section, but pay attention, you will be climbing this shortly. When you reach the train tracks, stop, take a break and fuel up for the climb ahead. This climb is used on a road century, The Blue Ridge Extreme, and climbs at a constant 10% grade for about 4 miles back to BluRP. Again at BluRP, go North on BluRP. A few more, not so serious climbs before you are rewarded with one sweet downhill back to the 'campsite' marker finish.
