Big Levels - Sherando This route starts at the entrance to Sherando Lake and follows a counter clockwise direction. The beginning consists of a quick road ride followed by a left turn onto Coal Rd, up/down fireroad, before they turn on the heat! Left turn and the pain is just around the corner. This is the trail to the sky. The climb is 5 miles of switchback, loose rock fireroad. The top of the climb is the steepest part. BUT there is a reward! Once at the top, follow the fireroad over to the Blue Ridge Parkway.. the next 6 miles is goregous Virginia Mountain scenry downhill road ride! A left turn back towards Sherando Lake is more sweet twisty downhill back to the park. A quick climb and you descend back to your car.
