VIRGINIA OFF ROAD SERIES (VORS)(2008-2016)
Dirty Series of Events LLC began in 2008 out of an idea to create a connection with Virginia's incredible mountain bike racing scene. After 15 years of competing in kayaking, trail running, adventure racing, triathlons, duathlons and mountain bike races, we noticed a disconnect in the mountain bike scene. So our first production was to create a 'collective' of mountain bike races in Virginia and create a points series: The Virginia Off Road Series (VORS) ! For once in Virginia, there would be a way for mountain bike athletes to understand where they stood against their competition. From 13 races in 2008 to 24 events with multiday events, we are now a sought after series to be a part of and only really limited by the number of weekends there are in a year. In the beginning, VORS held off road triathlons, trail runs and mountain bike races. Over the years, we have evolved into a more mountain bike-type series involving XC to Endurace-style racing. So we have seen and embraced the evolution of off road racing.
|DEVILS BACKBONE BREWING COMPANY (2009-2016)
As the years have passed, so have our adventures taken us into new realms. In 2009, we were trail running off the Blue Ridge Parkway when we found ourselves meeting the owner Steve Crandall of the Devils Backbone Brewing Company located in Roseland, Va near the Wintergreen Resort. The brewery had just opened and were looking for events to attract people to adventure out to try their soon-to-be award-winning beers. After previous years of racing mountain bikes out west, where most mountain bike races had a connection to a brewery, I suggested we bring that concept to Nelson County.
We built the course from scratch with the use of Steve's 700 acres on Horseshoe Mountain right up the road from the brewery. There were weekly marketing meetings working with Nelson County Tourism building a concept for the brewery's events. Along with the first Devils Backbone Challenge Mountain Bike Race, other events such as the Festy Experience Music Festival was developed along with trail running and mountain bike events. So Dirty Series of Events was right there along every step of the way.
Later monthly trail runs with various themes and camping were brought into the mix. We created Mardi Gras, Steeplechases, Night Runs and other themed races to entertain the masses along with post event beer tastings and food. Now we begin our next phase with the upcoming Hoopla!
These events all fell under the 'Devils Backbone Adventures' umbrella. Mountain biking, trail running and anything outdoors that was competively fun were our instruments. We hosted anywhere from 60-250 participants, families and spectators. During our time, we caught the eye of Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine and gained the status of 'Best Outdoor Bar'! Pretty exciting stuff was happening.

Wintergreen Resort Tread & Trail Series presented by Bold Rock Hard Cider
In the summer of 2012, we recieve a called from Wintergreen Resort's General Manager Hank Theiss. The word had spread from the events down at Devils Backbone Brewing Co and Wintergreen was looking to pick up the pace with some mountain bike racing. The following winter, our course recon meetings involved some skiing & snowboarding. That way once the snow was gone, we could start building some mountain bike trails and a race course.
Dirty Series of Events worked with Wintergreen Resort through every process of executing a mountain bike race and allowing Wintergreen to leave their own footprint. Wintergreen was not without knowledge but needed some honing in on the process. Dirty Series of Events was able to bridge the gap and give insight on making the event better.
Since then, Dirty Series of Events has been there along the way to include the Wintergreen Mountain Bike Races in the Virginia Off Road Series to keep the spotlight shining in their direction. In 2016, Dirty Series of Events has been brought in to help build the next endeavor: Wintergreen Tread & Trail Series. The Tread & Trail Series will be a 3 weekend race point series including mountain biking and trail running with Bold Rock Hard Cider being the Presenting Sponsor.

|RVA MORE : BOARD : 2006-2010
Richmond MORE advocates, volunteers and maintains trails around the Richmond Area. I was a member of the Board for 4 years. One of the best successes obtained during that time was designing and signing the first Memorandum Of Understanding with Richmond City Park 'Forest Hill Park'. This MOU assisted in communicating and establishing the existance of multi-use trails including Mountain Bikes in the Park.
